Starbucks

This posting is for all Starbucks fans. As I’m not a huge fan of American coffee – see my other posting which coffee I prefer – it’s not so much about me but rather about all of the people on the program craving their special treat:

How to survive as a Starbucksaholic

Their Cup sizes:
Short: 8 oz
Tall: 12 oz
Grande: 16 oz
Venti: 20 oz

  • 1 pump of sugar free syrup is 1/3 of an ounce. If you buy a gift card and pay for your coffee with that, the syrup shot is free! (Saves 30 to 50 cents!)
  • Espresso is usually 1 ounce.
  • A Short latte is the way to go with approximately 5.5 ounces of milk
  • A Tall latte generally has 9 ounces of milk the other 3 ounces are foam, espresso and such
  • A Grande latte generally has 11 ounces of milk the other 5 ounces are foam, espresso and syrup if you chose a flavor.
  • A Venti is 14.5 ounces of milk
  • A Grande Cappuccino is made of approximately 7oz of milk
  • A steamer which is just whole milk steamed with sugar free vanilla syrup
  • A latte with whole milk, cold or hot, with sugar free vanilla, caramel, cinnamon dulce or plain. Make sure you tell them sugar free!
  • A  Misto –  It depends what size you order. A misto is half coffee and half steamed milk so a medium is only 8 ozs of milk, add the SF syrup and voila!…. yummy!
  • Starbucks Vanilla Cream: You ask them for their milk-only drink with whole milk, sugar free vanilla and NO whipped cream.  Simply ask them to froth the milk the way they do with lattes.
  • Get a latte…whole milk….sugar free caramel and sugar free mocha…..no whip cream….no foam….and get it hot or cold.   It’s AWESOME!!!
  • An iced VENTI LATTE has 12 oz milk and I add WF Choc Syrup to it and it is wonderful!

Remember to tell them to use whole milk (they switched to 2% a little while ago unless you ask) and sugar free syrup!

Coffee

Today there was some discussion on the mailing list about coffee and how much some people miss it and how they deal with it. Several have managed to completely drop the milk or cream with it, even after the program.

Over the course of the day while following the discussion I realized that I did not have my daily 1/2 cup of Nespress coffee with a tablespoon of half & half and a small piece (1/4 serving) of chocolate in over 7 days – it’s usually my daily celebration of a day well done after dinner and oddly enough I have not even missed it (up to now). That’s pretty interesting to be happening on a diet I think.

Day SEVEN

Feeling good. Most of the first 2 – 3 days complaints have vanished, the odd numbness and tingling in my left arm and the slight headaches. Also the chills have strongly diminished.

Weight is beautifully dropping – almost 10 pounds since I began – but I still feel that I need to drink more. I do see the recommended amount rather as a minimum, the reason being that this is the same guideline I use for when I am not on a diet.

Today might be a bit of a challenge day as I’ve decided to face a get-together. But, even though I’ll have to skip on all of the good food and drink I am quite certain that I can overcome the cake and ice cream with one of these sweet Cherry Coke Zero’s.

Day SIX

Another pound down. Since yesterday. That is nice. Body fat is also dropping. As usual I read the mailing list first thing with my first 2 cups of Rose Hips tea. Delicious. Without sweetener.

Today I got to understand that I will need to watch out after the program to a) do the TRANSITION correctly and b) adhere to the MAINTENANCE protocol if I don’t want to find me back where I was at some time. I do not know exactly how it work (yet) but from what I gleamed, it appears to be a milk day a week. Not what I would be looking forward to because the milk days are hard as there are no solids. Thus, not too happy about that, of course I was hoping that with the re-calibrating of the body to the lower weight that I could finally get off this self-monitored food intake I’ve been on since the past 10 years. Obviously not. Bummer. But I’ll try and keep my dismay at bay because I do not have the details until I get to that point of the program, and often it sounds worse than it is, heck, a week ago I was freaking out because I was not sure if I could trust the beads to do their job… and they do.

Good and bad.

The jury is out on 2 other products:

Great discovery:

SoBe lifewater – fuji apple pear [zero calories, natural sweetened with erythritol] is much better than anticipated and great for getting large quantities of hydration.

The bad:

La Croix sparkling soda – cran rasperry [zero calories, no artificial sweeteners] – it’s like drinking salted raspberry soda. Better choice: drink Perrier which does not have such a distinct salty taste and add a teaspoon of sugar free, calorie free raspberry sirup to it.
