-
Did you achieve your goals?
So far: YES! – But I do not know yet if I will be able to maintain my new weight.
-
How much did it cost?
Doing the LONG DISTANT version of the program cost $175 for 27 days. This is for the STARTER-KIT which includes the first 3 sets of beads and the instructions where to set them, specifically tailored to you.
-
Why and how again does this program work?
The following quote from an email explains it nicely:
Dr Schwartz explained that milk is an emulsifier. It liquefies the fat. The veggies and fruit are enzymes – they dissolve the fat. Everything in the protocol is necessary.
Acupressure is a key element of the Accu Weight-Loss program. Pressure applied to tiny beads placed behind each ear will trick the body into feeling full and, therefore, you will not experience hunger. The program operates through the hypothalamus gland, behind the ear. The “AccuBeads” signals the hypothalamus gland that food satisfaction has been achieved and thus clients do not experience hunger. Beads placed in or on the ear, as in some programs, deal solely with the hunger and does not change your metabolism or reset your base weight. Beads placed on the Hypothalamus gland changes the way your brain percieves and deals with food and hunger. It resets your base weight and your metabolism. AW is a meeting of east and west medical technology. Acupressure also appears to signal the body that it is not calorie-deficient but is getting all the basic fat, protein, and amino acids necessary. Therefore, clients are losing mainly fat but little muscle or organ mass. AW is the healthiest way to lose weight. Nothing is jeopardized in the loss of calories. Its fast, its healthy, its effective
The Chi Gong enhances weight loss as well as increased energy by increasing the body’s ability to use oxygen.
There was an AW participant during the summer, sorry I can’t remember her name, who worked for a neurologist. She explained the diet to him, He said ‘Yes of course, its the Hypothalamus gland, it makes perfect sense.
-
What are the different stages of the program?
Basic is the time of the diet itself while following the program protocol and you stay on this until you reach your goal weight (or close to it). Then you go on to transition – where foods are slowly added to the basic diet – your weight is monitored as you add them and your weight is stabilized at your new body weight low set point. Then you go on to maintenance where you eat whatever you want for 5 days – check to see if you need to do the milk days to bring it back down or not – and just watch that things don’t get out of control.
-
How does the transition more exactly work?
The first 2 weeks are the same for everyone. You do 2 milk days & 5 veggie days. You add 7 oz. chicken or fish on the veggie days. You can also eat from 12 noon till 8 PM. You still wear beads for the first week, then they are gone. Your contact person will walk you through this & add back foods according to how you are doing.
-
Are you affiliated with the program?
No, in no way, except for the fact that I am following it myself. This is a good moment to point out that am no “pro” at this and everything you read here is either my own experience or snippets I’ve collected from the email mailing list or web sites and could be in one way or another be wrong and not truly reflect the Accu-Weight diet. The official Accu-Weight website is www.accuweight.com and that is where you can get specific information from Dr. Schwartz and Accuweight employees.
-
Are these the only questions people have?
No, but I haven’t gotten around to post more.

Just came across your website having been on the Accubud emails this morning. I am an alumni who keept the weight off for almost 2 years and slipped up this past summer having been away from home for over two months. Now need to loose 15pounds and returned to using the beads. How are you doing on maintenance?

Wow, 2 years! Congratulations!! I sure hope you are not beating up yourself too badly for the 15 pounds you regained. Wishing you smooth sailing on the program!
My husband and I, we both would usually gain 4 pounds or more on trips, and it had become almost a ’standard’, not to watch what and how much we ate. This year though when we went on a 2 week road trip, we made sure to only book hotels which had an indoor gym and we worked out every day… and this kept the weight at bay. As this was so successful, I know this is what we will be looking for also in similar, future situations.
Transition is going fine, still can only hardly wait to be able to cook and bake full force (in moderation) again

I was on the Accuweight Diet and lost 30 pounds. This was two years ago. I did not do the transition part exactly as instructed and have not watched my eating habits at all. As a result I have gained most (not all) of the weight back…but it did take two years. I have decided to go back on again and today is my second milk day and I feel good except for the fact that I miss my best friend (?) food. I hope I’m able to do this again because I felt (and looked) like I was 20 again.

You CAN do it if you truly decide to do it. The Beads Diet is a great tool to quickly loose the weight. Unfortunately it’s sometimes not as quickly that we are able to fully change our eating habits.
Good luck and happy beading Barbara!

I was told about this beads. I need to lose 115 lbs. I wanted to know if there is a doctor in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Area. I didn’t think it was $175.00. Please advise.
Thank You Ms.E

Cookie, I am just somebody who used the Beads Diet with great success – you would need to contact the people delivering the diet for precise information regarding location and any other possible questions at http://www.accuweight.com. Yes, you can lose 115 lbs. with this diet. You need to realize that it will cost you more than $175 in total. You can find all information on the Accu Weight Diet website. Good luck!

I met an old friend last weekend who lost 40 pounds in two months on this diet. She is 7 months in maintenance now. I am looking at it– what is the additional cost? You only get 3 beads so that gets you through 3 weeks? You pay for more bead placements? Can you explain what you mean by total cost? I could not find anything about cost on the website, except for the intial fee.

PS — I wanted to see what you wrote from day 1 but I could only get to the first day — I don’t see the other days on your Blog– just transition. Did you take the first part down?

Hi Maggie – Yes, it’s a great diet, the more you stick to it, the greater the wins. Correct, the initial “kit” contains 3 bead sets, i.e. 6 beads with instructions where to place them and more. After that you will need to order additional beads (1 set is good for 9 days). If you going to do it long distance as I did, each additional set costs $50. I think you can order 3 sets or such or just a single set, you’d need to find that information on their website. If you don’t do it long distance but go to their office to have them place the beads for you, you pay $90 each time you go.
To read my blog, the navigation to the next entry you find above to the right of the blog posts, e.g. The End of the Beginning is the post that follows Day Zero and Day One is then the following one. Names to the top-right go to later posts, names to the top-left will lead you back in time.

When you say that milk days are cumbersome, is that because you want to eat (cravings) or need to eat (hunger)?
#15 by marlyse on August 16th, 2010
Quote
Personally, at this point, do not think that milk days are cumbersome.
If I did in the past, then due to the fact that cravings are easier to have as one has nothing to “really bite”.

How about water loss? When did you transition between obvious weight loss due to water vs. fat?
And, are you aware what the importance of noon to six is? I mean, I heard Accuweight’s explanation, but it seems to me that the clock should vary if a person doesn’t operate on a normal daytime schedule, for instance.

I did not have water loss. You do not have water loss if you ensure to drink enough of it. Drink even more than only plenty, even if you have to go and pee every 30 minutes. It’s good for the body to flush out waste and toxins of the body. You need to drink way, way more water than you usually do.
We are dealing here with bodies. Bodies react to daylight. Even if we work at night. If you are a night nurse or something the like, talk with the people at AccuWeight – maybe they will put you on a special schedule.
My day is from 7 am to 1 am and sometimes shifted 1-2 hours (9am – 3am) and I was able to follow the program.
The program is not for everyone. Determination and the decision to stick with it no matter what is what made it easy for me.

Hi, Marlyse,
Oh boy, this is my 2nd day on the program and I am barely hanging in there and questioning my ambition to start with milk days. My H2O intake is up 200% and I need to visit the restroom every 20-30 mins. My stomach is experiencing pangs and growls and I am looking forward to having my spinach exactly 12 hours from now.
I would like to ask you how long the hunger lasted, but as you already explained you didn’t experience hunger until well into the diet. I sure do hope my beads are in the correct spot, and I think I started off rubbing too hard because those spots sure do hurt now.
Hopefully, you will let me know that the beginning is in fact the hardest and that it does get easier…

Sorry to hear of your battles Bee!
Personally I think it a good thing to start with Milk, it had served me well… once I got to veggies and fruit, I felt it was almost too much food!
Yes, bathroom dashes like that, had it also – if you can, look at it from the positive side: you surely are flushing a lot of toxins out of your body!
You definitely should subscribe to the user email list – Info and Link here – there are ‘veterans’ on it and they help the newbies with all the questions and it’s a great source of encouragement when things look bad. It is maintained by the AccuDiet people but mainly it’s just other people on the diet and such who want to help.
Also, try and find something which can help you over these bangs and introversions into missing food. Me, for example, I created this blog. And I collected a TON of recipes, all which I was going to make and eat once I’m done. Got a super collection but most of it not cooked since, but it was a perfect outlet for myself. Others, they do not even want to see a picture of food during their cravings. Each to their own.
Subscribe to the list, I’m sure it can help motivating!
Good luck.

Marlyse, I came back to talk to you, give you an update on my progress and get your feedback.
I started August 25th and had a real tough time with hunger and possibly some GI dysfunction and was eating after 6 PM, and mainly starches, like crackers and cereal, which put my stomach at ease.
I began taking PGX fiber supplement to aid with the hunger, and this combined with intense willpower has allowed me to stop the after 6 eating. I also take a good multi-vitamin with my 5 o’clock meal and a calcium/magnesium at bedtime.
With following the above improved regimen, the weight creeped off, but creep is the operative word. Overall, since I began in August, my investment on AW has been at 90%, but the reward is more like 10%. My starting weight was 226 and my current weight is 210, where I appear to be stuck. That is 16 lbs total and no change in dress size. Very frustrating.
What I was going to ask you is if you have an opinion or any knowledge on supplementing further with ingredients like Chromium Picolinate, CLA, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Fish Oil and CoQ10, which all are supposed to aid in weight loss.
See, I am not giving up on AW yet, and actually fret going off in case I encounter rapid weight gain. So, I am definitely at a plateau and thought I might need something extra. What do you think?

Hi Bee -
Maybe this diet is not the right thing for you, but eating stuff when you should not is BAD NEWS for it.
It is the chemical balance which helps shed a ton of weight – milk versus veggie days and adding starch or any other “no no” food (like vinegar on salad) will disrupt this chemical balance and makes you fall back into a “normal” diet type of approach.
If you have body issues you need to talk with your doctor if you’re up for this diet.
Ask your counselor, but I am 99.99% sure it is absolutely WRONG to take FIBER supplement during this time because fiber is for veggie days and NOT for milk days.
Even if you feel that you put 90% in – by taking fibers and eating starches and after 6mp you are probably killing right then and there 70% of your efforts.
Talk with your counselor. That’s what you are paying for when you buy the beads. Follow their lead, they know what they are doing. Get onto the Google support group, it’s a good group and can help with ideas and motivation.
The only “extra” you need is to try and get the diet down to the iota – at least that is what made me have so much success.
Good luck!

Wow! I’ve been reading these posts and personally I’d like to give a kudos for all of you starting to change your lifestyle! Personally, i just started and it’s an unusually interesting experience, I’d like to lose at least 50lbs which is what will bring me to my happy weight, but I am also impressed at the speed of the results of this diet. Don’t underestimate the recipes on the site either! I just tried the broccoli soup, and can somebody spell DELICIOUS? I can’t wait to try more!( this diet definetly gives you room to be creative with what you got…err allowed to have) I already lost a good amount, and I am determined to continue to do so! I mean sure I can’t have croissants, fruit tart, boston cream cake, chocolates, sushi etc.(the list goes on and on!) but you know what I do? It’s kind of silly, and most of you guys would probably think it does more harm than help, but i keep a list. A list of everything I will be able to eat and do once I lose this weight! Its a mental list, because i don’t normally carry lists around. haha, but it motivates me and my weight these past few days has been yo yoing around which I believe is considered a good thing, because your body is trying to resist its break point, but anywhooo i just wanted to post my progress and tell you all to keep up the awesome good work!

Was in the diet, lost 60lbs.
Had transition for 2-3 months.
5 months later I gained back 16lbs…I am very sad…..how could I have a regular life after the bead diet? I was told my body was not going to remember I was fat. During the 5 months I didnt binge or had a bad diet…I just WASNT on the bead diet and slowly started to get all the weight back…why this battle? how could I conquer it??

Sorry to hear about this.
It seems that you did not follow the recommendation of 5 days off diet and if ‘overdone’ then 1-2 days back on milk – if you keep on doing this, you ought to be good and not gain back.
Obviously you ARE eating more calories than your body is needing, so either you need to move/exercise the amount of “over-”calories or you need to eat less and more controlled or you need to add those 1-2 days of milk back into your life. It’s the only way. If you eat too much your body will learn again to be fat.
To gain 16 lbs back in 5 months … the math is simple :
1 pound = 3,500 calories.
5 months = 5 x 30 days = 150 days
16 pounds = 16 x 3,500 = 56,000 too many calories in 150 days
56,000 / 150 = 374 calories too much per day
The bad news is that this means : don’t eat that additional piece of cake each day or that double-cream latte at Starbucks. The good news is that these 374 calories are not THAT much to get under control.
But you will need to get the amount of food/beverage intake versus activity under control. It’s the only way.
